AP 164 - Handling Body Fluids

Background

Division personnel are advised of the risk of transmission of many diseases through the handling of body fluids.

Proper precautions must be taken when handling body fluids and excreta.

Procedures

1. Staff members and other school personnel are required to wear rubber gloves whenever their hands may be contaminated with blood, other body fluids or excreta.

2. Surfaces soiled with body fluids or excreta must be promptly cleaned and disinfected.

3. Additional instruction in handling bodily fluids and excreta may be required for support staff who work with students who have intensive needs. Such training shall be at the expense of the Division.
