AP 403 - Substitute & Casual Employment

Background
 
Substitute and casual staff may be offered employment based on the requirements of the Division on a day-to-day basis or a short-term vacancy.
 
Procedures  
 
1. Substitute Teachers
1.1. Human Resources will approve all applicants to be placed on the substitute teacher list.  Human Resources will share the approved list with all schools.
1.2. All substitute teachers must hold a valid teaching certificate in the province of Saskatchewan and is in good standing with the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board (SPTRB).
1.3. Principals shall report the engagement of substitute teachers as required for payroll purposes through the automated Absence Management System (formerly AESOP).
1.4. Principals are to informally monitor, assess the performance of substitute teachers and communicate significant concerns to Human Resources.
1.5. Substitute teachers are to perform the duties of the teachers they are replacing or perform other teaching duties as assigned by the Principal.
1.6. Human Resources may, in consultation with the Director of Education, remove a sub from the approved list.
 
2. Casual Support Staff
2.1.Human Resources will approve all applicants to be placed on the casual support staff list.  Human Resource Services will share the approved lists with all schools.
2.2. Principals/Supervisors shall report the engagement of casual staff as required for payroll purposes through the automated month end, or the automated Absence Management System (formerly AESOP).
2.3. Principals/Supervisors are to informally monitor, assess the performance of casual staff and communicate significant concerns to Human Resources.
2.4. Casual staff are to perform the duties of the classification they are replacing or perform other duties as assigned by the Principal/Supervisor.
2.5. Human Resources, in consultation with the Director of Education, remove a casual from the approved list.
