Bring Your Own Device

 Today’s generation of students is unlike any other. As technology becomes increasingly prevalent, and our society continues to become more mobile, BYOD(bring your own device) in schools presents a wealth of opportunities for students and teachers alike. With this in mind, Horizon School Division is embracing this exciting digital shift by expanding student access to the internet in order to enhance educational experiences through BYOD opportunities. Please follow the instructions below to enroll your device today!

Before enrolling your device in the Horizon School Division BYOD program please read below:
  • If you have a “division owned” device DO NOT proceed with the following steps, instead please contact your schools computer technician for assistance with enrollment of your division owned device by placing a help desk ticket – [email protected]
  • Enrollment of your personal device is voluntary, and as such enrollment constitutes acceptance of the terms set forth in the options below.
  • BYOD enrolment constitutes acceptance of the Horizon School Division AP140 - Acceptable Use of Technology Procedure.
  • Users may un-enroll a personal device at any time.

 

Option 1: Google Access via Device Apps

Any user wanting access to their Horizon School Division G-Mail, Google Drive, Calendars, etc., on their personal device can simply add their Horizon account to one of the apps for access. Through this method you will be provided access to all of your Horizon School Division resources.

Notes:
  • It is not necessary to set up a user management profile for this level of access.
  • Students do not require a pin code on a device to access Gmail, Google Drive, etc.
  • To ensure the security of division information staff will require a pin code on their device to access Gmail, Google Drive, etc.
  • In the event that a device is lost or stolen, Horizon School Division does have the ability to wipe data or information associated specifically with your Horizon School Division account only in order to ensure information privacy.
  • Horizon School Division does not have the ability to wipe the entire device or view any information on the device with this level of access.
  • Your location is not and cannot be tracked using this method of enrollment.
  • Device information may potentially be collected, such as make, model and serial number, however private personal information cannot be tracked, monitored or recorded.
  • Users may be periodically redirected to a webpage in order to confirm that you wish to access the Horizon School Division public wireless.
Accessing your information using G-Suite Apps, Android or iOS (Option 1)
  1. Launch either the Apple Store or Google Play Store on your device and download any combination of G-Suite Apps, such as G-Mail, Google Calendar, and Google Drive.
  2. Add your Horizon School Division account to the desired app using the following format:
  3. You now have access to your Horizon School Division Google account.

Option 2: Mobile Device Management (MDM) Enrollment

Through this method you will be provided access to all of your school division resources by permanently associating your device with the Horizon School Division network, as such will not be periodically redirected to a webpage where you need to confirm that you wish to access wireless.

Notes:
  • This method of enrollment requires users to authenticate to join the MDM system.
  • Location Services is not required to be enabled.
  • A Pin Code (lock screen) will be required to be set on your device.
  • Enrolling will give you access to the “Horizon-Wifi” wireless network with no other restrictions.
  • Information Services DOES have the ability to wipe your entire device not just your account data.
  • Device information may potentially be collected, such as model, serial# etc. However private personal. information cannot be tracked, monitored or recorded.
Enrolling your iOS Device (Option 2)
To enroll your Apple Device use the following steps:
  1. Open the App Store and download “Meraki System Manager”.
  2. Launch the App and select the “Begin Enrollment” button at the bottom.
  3. Tap the camera button and scan the following QR code: Apple QR code
  4. Select "Enroll this Device".
  5. You will be prompted with an Authentication required window. Click ‘Sign In’
  6. Enter your Horizon Google username and password in the following format:
  7. Select “Continue” on the Enroll in System Manager screen.
  8. Select “Allow” on the warning message.
  9. On the Install Profile screen, select “install” if you agree to install the management profile.
  10. Click “Install” again to agree to install the management profile.
  11. Click “Install” once more to confirm you agree to install the management profile.
  12. On the Remote Management pop-up, select the “Trust” button.
  13. Wait for the profile to be installed, and then click “Done”
  14. When prompted to open Meraki MDM, click “Open”.
  15. One the Location Services window select the option you agree too.
Congratulations! You have successfully enrolled your iPhone device.

Enrolling your Android Device (Scenario 2)
To enroll your Android Device use the following steps:
  1. Ensure that you have access to the Google Play Store.
  2. Open the Play Store and download “Meraki System Manager”.
  3. Once downloaded, launch the app.
  4. Tap the hamburger menu at the top left corner of the app screen.
  5. Tap "Configuration".
  6. Tap the “Enroll This Device” button.
  7. Tap the camera button and scan the following QR code:Android QR code
  8. Tap "Enroll this device".
  9. You will be prompted with an Authentication Required window. Tap “Sign In”
  10. Enter your Horizon Google username and password in the following format:
  11. Tap "Accept", if you agree to Google’s Terms of Service.
  12. Scroll down and tap “Next” on the Google Services page, if you agree.
  13. Tap "Enroll this device" again.
  14. Tap “Sign In” again.
  15. You will be prompted to provision a "Work Profile". Tap "NO". This is not required.
  16. Wait for the device to enroll. You can see it syncing by the spinning arrow in the top right.
Congratulations! You have successfully enrolled your Android device.

Enrolling Your Windows 10 Device
To enroll your Windows 10 Device use the following steps:
  1. Navigate to Settings - Accounts - Access work or school on your Windows device.
  2. Click Enroll only in device management.
  3. Enter an email address, click Connect or Continue
  4. In the Server box, enter https://n156.meraki.com/
  5. Enter this network ID: 156-400-0729 (Ensure you include the dashes)
  6. Sign in with your Horizon Email account when prompted for Google credentials
  7. Click Login
  8. Click Got it!
Congratulations! You have successfully enrolled your Windows 10 device.
