Assessment
The Saskatchewan Student Assessment (SSA) is a new program under Saskatchewan’s 2020–2030 Provincial Education Plan. In the past, Saskatchewan mainly used provincial exams at the Grade 12 level to measure student achievement. Now, the province is moving toward earlier, system-wide assessments in certain grades. The goal is to check student learning earlier and more consistently, aligning with teachers' assessment goals in every classroom across Horizon.
What is the Saskatchewan Student Assessment (SSA)?
The SSA measures what students know and can do in key subject areas, and is based on the Saskatchewan curriculum. The results will help teachers, parents, and schools understand how students are doing, and where they may need more support.
When the program is fully in place, Grade 5 and 9 students will take a mathematics assessment, and Grade 4, 7, and 10 students will take an English language arts (ELA) assessment.
Accommodations for Students
Students who require accommodations for the assessment will receive the same supports they normally use in the classroom.
Practice Assessment Opportunities
Students and their parents/caregivers can practice using the assessments online to understand what they will look like and how they work. They can be accessed here: Practice Assessments
Students are encouraged to try these assessments before the field test. More information for families can be found here: SSA Family Fact Sheet - March 2026
