Former Chief, Cowessess First Nation

Cadmus Delorme is a Cree and Saulteaux leader from Cowessess First Nation, known for his leadership, vision, and commitment to reconciliation. During his time as Chief from 2016 to 2023, he led major agricultural developments, including the expansion of Cowessess’s grain farming and cattle operations—work that contributed to a stronger, more self-sustaining future for the Nation.

His leadership also came with deep challenges. In 2021, Cowessess First Nation made international headlines with the discovery of potentially 751 unmarked graves near the former Marieval Indian Residential School. That same year, Cowessess became the first First Nation in Canada to sign an agreement with the federal government to regain jurisdiction over child welfare, restoring decision-making power to the community.

Cadmus brings an empowering message to Horizon’s Student Agriculture Day, drawing on his lived experience as a leader, entrepreneur, and advocate for sustainable futures. His work shows how Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities can work together to strengthen agriculture and land stewardship across the Prairies. His message to students will centre on leadership, partnership, and the importance of understanding our shared histories.

He speaks with honesty, compassion, and humour — creating space for understanding, without judgment, and helping audiences reflect on the world they've inherited and how to move forward together.

Cadmus is the Founder and Partner of OneHoop Advisory Services and Flowing River Capital Group, two organizations committed to helping businesses and institutions respond meaningfully to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, particularly #92 (Business and Reconciliation) and #57 (Professional Development and Training).

He holds a Master of Public Administration from the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the First Nations University of Canada. He has received multiple honours, including the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum and Diamond Jubilee Medals and an honorary degree from Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
