2017 Jr. Girls' Volleyball Team.PNG

This year, the junior girls' volleyball team consisted of the following players: Jesslyn Leibel, Madison Gudmundson, Macey Tomblin, Kelsey Stadnyk, Ellian Singkala, Cindy Singkala, Ella Madarash, Maggie Tomblin, Skylar Gusdal, Golnaz Mokhtar Sasani, Jocelyn Hilts, Hayley Bodnar, Emma Nichol and Sarah Babut. The league was made up of several schools from the Southeast: Foam Lake, Quill Lake, Archerwill, Wadena and Wynyard Composite High School. After the regular season, the girls finished league play with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. This put us in third place, behind Foam Lake (4-0) and Archerwill (3-1). On Thursday, October 26th, the girls travelled to Foam Lake for league playoffs. They defeated Archerwill in the semifinal and played a hard-fought back-and-forth match against Foam Lake in the final. Unfortunately, Foam Lake came out on top, defeating us in three sets.

The girls also travelled on weekends to play in three tournaments and hosted their own. The girls finished in first place at the Watson tournament, had strong results in Lanigan and their home tournament and lost in the final at the Foam Lake tournament. The growth and development of these young ladies as volleyball players was immense. It was an amazing season. Great job girls!

The Bears claimed their third medal in three years by bringing home the bronze at Provincials on November 17/18th in Carlyle. A Regional win in Hudson Bay qualified the Bears for provincials along with 9 other teams from around the province. In Wynyard's pool were Watrous, Stobart (Duck Lake), Carlyle, and Langenburg. Pool A featured Wakaw, Foam Lake, Rocanville, St. Wahlberg, and Wilkie.

The Bears finished round robin play with a record of 3-1, second in their pool. In the quarterfinals they faced off against Rocanville, defeating them in straight sets. In the semi-finals the Bears fell to Foam Lake in a closely contested three set battle. After the loss, the Bears moved on to the bronze medal game against Carlyle.

The Bears came out solid and continued that strong play throughout the bronze medal match, beating the host, Carlyle, in straight sets. The gold medal match went to three with Wakaw coming out the victors over Foam Lake.

The hard fought provincial weekend capped off a successful season for the WCHS Bears Sr. Girls' volleyball team. The girls played in seven tournaments, with four tournament finals, and two wins. They also won their Conference and Regional play downs before moving on to provincials for the eighth straight year. The bronze medal that the girls captured, following their silver medal in 2015 and their bronze medal in 2016, is the first time the Bears have won medals at three provincial volleyball tournaments in a row. Congratulations on a great season, Bears!
