"Resc-U 911 Day" at Watson School

May 18, 2017

Watson School was a hub of activity last Friday, May 12, with their first "Resc-U 911 Day". This event brought together 7 area schools and over 400 students to take part in safety demonstrations and presentations from a number of community partners and first responders, including area Fire Departments, RCMP, EMS and Agrium Inc.

The idea for the day came from Inga MacLaine, Educational Assistant at Watson School, who wanted to hold safety demonstrations for Watson students. As more partners volunteered to present to students, they opened the invitation for the day up to other schools. Students from Annaheim School, Archerwill School, Lake Lenore School, Quill Lake School, Rose Valley School and Wadena Composite High School were in attendance to take in demonstrations and join activities geared towards teaching about the work that goes in to responding to a variety of emergency situations.

In addition to vehicle extrication demonstrations, fire extinguisher demonstrations, firefighter competitions and more, Safe Communities presented a car seat safety clinic for families and BHP sponsored a free lunch for attendees.

The first Watson School Resc-U 911 Day was a great success, and a great example of Horizon's Safe & Caring goal in action.
