The junior football season kicked off on Monday, Sept. 24th, with Wakaw hosting 3 games. In the first game, Wakaw took on a brand new St. Brieux team. The Warriors started strong, scoring 2 touchdown in their first few plays, on the way to a 36-14 victory. In the second game, Kamsack and St. Brieux battled back and forth, trading touchdowns very quickly. St. Brieux scored and converted a touchdown on the last play of the game to take a 41 to 40 victory (the first for their football program). In the last game of the night, the Warriors played Kamsack, and dominated them 39-0.
On Monday, Oct. 1st, the juniors made the long trek to Kamsack for 2 more games. They got off to a fast start against Kamsack on the way to a 40-12 victory, In the second game, St. Brieux came out strong and both teams were scoreless until close to halftime. The Warriors got a few quick touchdowns and kept rolling to a 34-18 win. In the 3rd game, St. Brieux came back from behind late in the game again and beat Kamsack 26-21.
The juniors travelled to St. Brieux on Oct. 10th next, taking on Kamsack first and defeating them by a score of 34-6. They played St. Brieux next and prevailed over an ever improving team 25-12. That setup the championship game of Wakaw (#1) vs. St. Brieux (#2) for Oct. 17th.
Oct. 17th proved to be one of the nicest days for football this year, and the juniors took an early lead over St. Brieux on the way to a 41-32 victory and the league championship.
