First and second year teachers – who are either new to Horizon or new to the profession – gathered in Humboldt on August 21 & 22 for a New Teacher Induction Workshop. During this workshop, teachers in their first or second year with Horizon met with mentors from their respective schools, engaged in teambuilding exercises and discussed the Pillars of Classroom Management (which include "building positive relationships", "clear expectations" and "engaging lessons"). Discussion sessions were led by Deputy Director of Education, Randy MacLEAN and Superintendent of Human Resource Services, Todd Gjevre. Other members of Horizon's Senior Leadership Team stopped by throughout the workshop to introduce themselves, including Director of Education, Kevin Garinger. Mr. Garinger took the opportunity to extend an official welcome to our newest teachers and share a few words about his excitement for the coming school year.
The workshop was organized by Horizon's Human Resource Services Team as a way to welcome new teachers and provide orientation prior to welcoming students back to our classrooms on September 5.
